Layered dressing for a coastal walk in autumn
Layered dressing for a coastal walk in autumn
An autumn walk by the Baltic Sea has something extraordinarily magical about it. The waves hit the shore calmly, seagulls circle low over the water and the iodine-saturated air cools your cheeks. It is a time when the sea shows its rougher, but also more beautiful side. To fully enjoy the experience, however, it is worth remembering one thing. appropriate layered clothing. Because the autumn Baltic can be capricious - sunshine and a light breeze can turn into a chilly mist over the water in a matter of minutes.
And after the walk? It's worth returning to the warmth - to our restaurant "Tam Gdzie zawsze" in the Sea Crucible in Łeba, where aromatic tea, hot soup and a cosy atmosphere await.
Autumn conditions at the seaside
Autumn in Łeba is a time when the weather can change rapidly. Mornings can be crisp and damp, mornings can surprise with sunshine, and evenings often bring a cool wind from the water. In such conditions, the key to comfort is dressing in layers - i.e. one that allows you to easily adjust the amount of clothing according to the temperature and wind.
Walking on the beach is not just about relaxation - it's also about light physical activity. It can get warm after a few minutes of walking, but a short stop is enough to feel the cold again. This is why it is best to dress in "onions".
First layer - close to the body
It is the most important part of your wardrobe. It should be made of a material that wicks away moisture and allows the skin to breathe. Thin cotton, merino wool or modern thermo-active fabrics work well.
Avoid thick jumpers right from the start - too warm a first layer will quickly make you sweat, and the moisture trapped against your body will cool you down much quicker than a cool breeze.
For ladies, lightweight turtlenecks or long-sleeved T-shirts are perfect, for men, thin sweatshirts or sporty technical shirts.
Layer two - warmth and comfort
It is a layer that retains heat. In autumn, fleece blouses, lightweight jumpers or quilted sleeveless jackets work best at the seaside. Their function is to insulate - they keep you warm but do not restrict your movements.
It's a good idea to have something that can be easily taken off and put into a backpack. A walk on the beach often turns into a longer trip along the dunes, so lightness and practicality are key.
If you like a classic style, opt for a combination of a thin jumper with a scarf and hat - the autumn wind can surprise even on the calmest day.
Layer three - protection against wind and moisture
It is the outer shield that protects against sea wind and light rain. The jacket should be lightweight but wind-resistant. A windbreaker or softshell with a hood would be ideal.
Pay attention to length - jackets that cover the hips retain heat better. If you're planning a longer walk along the beach or an ascent of the dunes, think about shoes too - comfortable, waterproof and with a good grip on the sand.
Don't forget gloves - thin gloves, made of windproof material, can be a lifesaver when the temperature drops below ten degrees.
Autumn walk in the rhythm of nature
Autumn coastal walks have something meditative about them. It's a time when you can really slow down - listen to the waves, collect shells or simply watch the sea change colours. Łeba in autumn is calm and true - without the hustle and bustle, but with a space where you can find inner peace.
The woods near the beach smell of conifers and there is salt and chill in the air. After several kilometres of walking, each cup of hot tea tastes like a reward.

After a walk, nothing tastes better than something warm. W the "Wherever" restaurant w The Sea Crucible Treat yourself to dishes that warm you up from the first bite.

In the evenings, the orangery has a special atmosphere - candlelight, the smell of spices and soft music in the background. It is the perfect place to warm your hands, relax after a walk and enjoy the moment.
Leba in autumn - peace, space, breath
Late autumn in Leba is a completely different rhythm. The beaches are empty, the sea hums deeper and the air becomes fresher. For many visitors Maritime Melting Pot is the best time to visit - when you can feel the real atmosphere of the sea, without rushing, with a cup of hot coffee on your return.
